If one bedroom is always warmer than the rest of the house, the thermostat probably isn't the problem. The air may be escaping on the way there.
Common causes
- Leaking joints. Connections between duct sections loosen over time.
- Loose or rusted boots. The duct pulls away from the vent box and air leaks into the wall.
- Crushed or kinked flex duct. Common in attics where things get stored or stepped on.
- Long runs. Rooms at the end of a long duct get less air.
Why it costs you
Air that leaks into walls, attics or crawl spaces is air you paid to heat or cool. The system runs longer to make up for it, and a leaking duct can pull dust from inside the walls.
How we fix it
We inspect the boots and visible ducts, photograph what we find, fit new collars, seal joints with foil duct tape or mastic and replace damaged sections. See our duct repair and replacement service.
